|Husbands are a three piece pop band from Marseille, France.
Husbands was spontaneously created by its three members-Mathieu Hocine (Kid Francescoli), Simon Henner (French 79, Nasser) and Mathieu Poulain (Oh! Tiger Mountain)- as they were working together on various projects from their collective Microphone Recordings in Simon’s studio.
Husbands started playing and recording together with no other goal than having as much fun as they could trying to squeeze in everything that didn’t fit in their other artistic endeavors. The result is a joyous, generous, addictive melting pot of everything pop, from indie to dance to reggae and more…
After their first self-released EP in 2013, two hit videos by Cauboyz (“Dream” & “You, Me, Cellphones”), Husbands were picked by world-famous dj-producer Laurent Garnier to be the first release on his brand new label Sounds Like Yeah! Husbands’ second EP “Let Me Down (Don’t)” came out in December 2014 featuring remixes by Ghost of Christmas and from the godfather of french house himself, and another playful video by Cauboyz.
Mathieu Hocine, Mathieu Poulain and Simon Henner all have treaded extensively on their respective musical paths before deciding to make music together. When it came to picking a name, borrowing the title of John Cassavetes’ film occurred quite naturally as it celebrates best the kind of friendship and complicity that bonds the three men. It is on the label created especially for them by Laurent Garnier that Husbands released its first EPs, revealing to the world an emotionally dense and troubling music: a very post-pop voice resting on entrancing rhythmic loops with scattered vintage instruments and noise textures. Proud and nocturnal hymns.
This is the story of three musicians. Three mates, who, apart from their respective and respectable projects – Oh! Tiger Mountain, Nasser and Kid Francescoli – wanted to get together and make music. And so Husbands was born and then came their two first recordings Dream/Overseas and Husbands. And that’s just about it. Except, perhaps, that their music, passing deftly from folk ballads to delicate electro-pop, contains, albeit well hidden, a mysterious beauty full of melancholy and lightness. The sort of sensation you might feel, alone on a Sunday evening, as you recall a joke told by a close friend, knowing very well you’ll see them soon. Husbands is a story of love amongst friends. Of solemnity and laughs.
Good session! Enjoy!
