Following the evolution of Brian Jonestown Massacre’s line up is quite a challenge, just like recalling the entire discography of this not-so hippie project that began in San Francisco in 1990. But the original incarnation of BJM, Anton Newcombe, is still right at the heart of it. Over the course of almost 30 years in the group, Newcombe has played with around fifty other musicians, heroes who saw themselves out after non-stop public arguments provoked – deliberately or not – by their abrasive leader. A legend popularised by the cult movie Dig!, and who would certainly have stepped out of the limelight long ago if it weren’t for the authentic winds of rock that give the Brian Jonestown Massacre sounds of a modern-day Velvet Underground.
