Aurélien Cotentin, better known by his stage name Orelsan, is a French rapper, songwriter, record producer, actor and film director.

Orelsan has released two studio albums, Perdu d’Avance (2009), and the follow-up Le chant des Sirènes (2011).

Orelsan is also one half of the French Hip Hop duo Casseurs Flowters, along with Gringe, with whom he has released two studio albums, Orelsan et Gringe sont les Casseurs Flowters (2013), and the original soundtrack for their film Comment C’Est Loin (2015).

In April 2017, Orelsan announced that he and Gringe were working on their third and debut solo studio albums respectively. In September 2017, Orelsan released the first single, entitled « Basique », from his third solo album, La Fête Est Finie, released in October 2017.

Orelsan’s artistry and rapping technique has drawn him comparisons to American rap legend Eminem on several occasions, primarily because both are prominent white rappers and both are known for their ability to switch between or combine violent and comical rapping techniques.

OrelSan reduces the politically correct to nothing. Simple. He imposes his monotonous and nonchalant flow. Basic. Although he has matured – and his rap too – his lyrics are still as sweet as a glass of vodka at 8 o’clock in the morning. With La fête est finie, another party begins, this time in the company of Nekfeu, Stromae and Maître Gims. Between his chronicling of bored youth and caustic, old-fashioned or offbeat humour, this new French chanson is now appealing to listeners in sneakers and hoodies. Or perhaps new rap for the moccasin-clad. With all the necessary sarcasm and irony. Simple and basic.
