Born in Austin in 1984, the biography of Gary Clark Jr., although it’s still early days, is already that of a great man. At the age of 15, he was spotted by Clifford Antone, owner of the celebrated Antone’s Nightclub, where some of the best known names in the blues have played, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy and Jimmy Reed. The young guitarist persevered and in 2010, at the age of 26, he caught the attention of Eric Clapton. “Thank you. You’ve given me the desire to play again.” These were the first words spoken by the godfather of the guitar to his future protégé. All that’s missing is the ghost of Jimi Hendrix! Or perhaps he is already there on stage at each of Gary Clark Jr’s performances.
